ABOUT MCAE
MCAE is one of six departments within the Office for Equity and Diversity; the other four departments are Disability Services, Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgender Programs Office, the Women Center, the office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action and the Office for Diversity in Graduate Education.
The Office for Equity and Diversity provides leadership in fostering a university community that values and actively supports inclusiveness and diversity. The Office for Equity and Diversity envisions an inclusive, multicultural university community that welcomes and actively supports diversity in the widest sense: race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identification, gender expression, and social and economic status. An inclusive, multicultural community recognizes diversity as enriching, is respectful of differing experiences, values and beliefs, and provides a setting where divergent perspectives are articulated and discussed. Through access and dialogue, the Office for Equity and Diversity seeks to create a respectful climate among students, faculty, and staff. This welcoming climate will replace misinformation and misunderstanding with understanding and acceptance, thus driving and sustaining systemic institutional change. Additionally, such a climate will offer expanded opportunities for students from all backgrounds and prepare graduates for future success in a complex world.
To that end, MCAE seeks to provide services and programs that create powerful caring human connections. The benchmark of our success is the continuous development of a culture of achievement that values equity, excellence, and human diversity while promoting social justice.
