MEP Study Abroad Important Information

If you are planning to Study Abroad, here is a checklist:

Study abroad requires a series of guidelines when planning to Study Abroad:

Step 1 Attend a LAC. First Step Meeting (an overview of study abroad programs).

Step 2 Attend LAC’s Financial Resources available for Study Abroad.

Step 3 Schedule a Financial Aid Preview Meeting (before applying to Study Abroad)

Step 4 Use the Registration & Financial Aid Checklist to manage your financial aid while studying abroad.

Step 5 Refer to the Financial Planning for Study Abroad FAQ (answers common questions about financial aid).

Once you have completed your Financial Aid Planning Meeting please contact Peggy Hampton to let her know you plans to Study Abroad.

MEP Covers the following Study Abroad expenses:

• Tuition as comparable to per credit rates at the University of Minnesota.
• Books (Please note you must purchase your books from the Coffman Bookstore, if they do not have the books please have them order them).

MEP Does Not Cover the following Study Abroad expenses:

• Study Abroad application fee.
• Travel to Study Abroad destination.
• Passport.
• Any other expenses related to your Study Abroad program.

FYI, MEP covers the same expenses that we cover for you as a University of Minnesota student. If your Study Abroad expenses exceed the per credit rate at the University of Minnesota, you should expect to pay the difference.

Make sure you pay attention to deadlines and seek all resources available to you. Study Abroad scholarships and scholarships within your college.
