Multicultural Leadership Mentoring Program

The Multicultural Leadership Mentoring Program (MLMP) is a dynamic partnership between the University of Minnesota and Twin Cities corporations. MLMP selects, trains, and places over 30 undergraduate and graduate students with over 30 executive mentors from Best Buy, Allina Hospitals and Clinics and Accenture Corporations.

The program's philosophy embraces the "paying it forward" concept, where everyone in the program is actively giving back to the community. Students in business, medical, education, social work, urban affairs, and international studies programs are attracted to the program. They all are getting valuable experience mentoring high school students while being mentored by a corporate executive.

University students are enrolled in a Leadership Seminar for academic credit in which they explore personal leadership development, which is consistent with their goals, values and ethics. Cooperative learning concepts play a major role in class structure.

MLMP is a new initiative within the Office for Equity and Diversity attracting corporate partners including Best Buy, Allina and Accenture.
