Services

Academic
We have full-time American Indian counselors to assist with any questions you may have concerning the University of Minnesota. We work closely with the Office of Admissions, Martin Luther King Advising Office, all Colleges at the University, Student Excellence in Academics and Multiculturalism (SEAM) program, and the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence (MCAE).

Scholarships and Financial Aid
We work with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to answer your financial aid questions. We are equipped with tribal financial aid applications and information on native scholarships and opportunities. We also work with the Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program Office and other tribal higher education offices. Also, information on the Hubbard Broadcasting Scholarship for Journalism, Admission Possible, the Lund Scholarship for Creative Writing, the Ethel Curry American Indian Scholarship and the Multicultural Civic Engagement Program are available at our center.

Personal
Please visit if you need guidance or assistance making personal decisions. A counselor will assist you with complete confidentiality. Our staff also makes referrals for community and University resources.

Cultural
The Circle of Indigenous Nations, American Indian Studies Department, and American Indian student organizations work collaboratively to offer cultural support and experiences to students. We also have our own American Indian Council of Elders for additional personal/cultural consultations.

Career information
We provide information on employment, internships and volunteer opportunities. The center is equipped with up-to-date files available for student viewing.

Tutoring
Tutors are available to work one-on-one in Ojibwe and Dakota languages. Tutors are free and their schedules are posted in our center (125 Fraser Hall).

Library Resources

Mobile Librarians are Resident Librarians for the University of Minnesota Libraries who come to the Circle of Indigenous Nations to offer students their help. They can help in finding resources for you reasearch, how to access library resources remotely, focus a research topic, finding facts, reviews and more. A mobile librarian is available to meet with individual(s) for library research consultation. Come to us or ask us to come to you! This service is available to all college staff, faculty, and students
